With this in mind we thought we would provide you with a simple check list you should carry out prior to leaving.

• Check all windows and doors are locked and keep the key out of view

• Move any valuable items from view of the street

• Store all bikes and valuable garden furniture in a locked shed or garage

• Lock and secure any garden and driveway gates to restrict unauthorised access

• Leave lights on a timer to ensure it looks like the property is in use

• Make sure any security alarms are set

• Ensure external security lighting is in good working condition

• Don`t broadcast the fact that you are away from the property to the whole world via social media

• Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on the property and even collect any mail that may be on show as this is a dead give away the building is empty

Whilst the above precautions are simple, you would be amazed how many people fail to complete these simple tasks then wonder why their property has been broken into in their absence.
