Metal Fencing Measuring Guide
How to Select the Right Size Metal Fencing
A metal fence, which often spans large distances, might be complicated when calculating how many posts and panels you'll need. As a result, follow the procedures below, or contact us with your sizes. We will happily figure out what is required.
Installing Between 2 Fixed Points
Begin by measuring the total distance you have to work with and writing it down so you can refer to it later.
You can then start calculating the number of standard-size panels you will require. Remember that the usual length is 1830mm.
Example
An overall space of 8000mm with the fencing fixed to a wall at both ends would need 4 full panels and one made to measure section.
8000mm (overall space) – 7320mm (size of 4 standard metal fence panels) – 200mm (size of 4 x 50mm posts) = 480mm
So in this instance you would need to order as follows
-
4 x standard metal fencing panels @ 1830mm in length
-
1 x made to measure fence @ 480mm in length
-
4 x square metal posts @ 50mm in diameter
Installing Between No Fixed Points
The process is the same as above however you will also need to allow for additional posts at each end to provide a fixing point.
Example
A 8000mm overall space with the fencing fixed to posts at both ends would need 4 full panels and one made to measure section.
8000mm (overall space) – 7320mm (size of 4 standard metal fence panels) – 300mm (size of 6 x 50mm posts) = 380mm
So in this instance you would need to order as follows;
-
4 x standard metal fencing panels @ 1830mm in length
-
1 x made to measure fence @ 380mm in length
-
6 x square metal posts @ 50mm in diameter
