Hampton Wrought Iron Side Gate in Guilford - Surrey

The owner of this large, detached property in Guilford, Surrey, was searching for an efficient method to strengthen security to the side of their home at the junction where the path crosses from the driveway to their rear garden. They did not want to become another crime statistic after a string of break-ins to the nearby houses, so they turned to Wrought Iron Gates Direct searching for an effective remedy.

Customer Requirement

The client desired a heavy-duty side gate which would serve as a robust and resilient security barrier to the home's side entry point. Secondly, the customer requested that the design include spiked finials to discourage someone from jumping over the gate.

After listening to the client's fears and expectations, we presented them with the Talisman, Ascot, Corfe, and Hampton designs to select from. All these are manufactured with a heavier duty steel than our more ornamental designs and have a sliding latch mechanism that can be easily fastened with a padlock when access is not needed. Moreover, all the designs incorporate fleur-de-lys finials with the spear shaped pattern that the customer was searching for.

Following on from the design stage, we also recommended that the gate selected should also incorporate a secondary lock. In this instance, the addition of a heavy-duty mortise lock was felt to be the most appropriate solution. This means that for daily use, the customer could open and close the gate using a handle and key which provided user convenience whilst for times the customer was away from the property on holiday, they could also secure the gate with a secondary padlock.

Our last proposal was for the metal to be treated with a zinc plated and black powder coated paint as this would reduce on-going maintenance and help to provide a higher level of protection against rust and corrosion of the steel.
